Our previous lessons were dedicated to our country – Ukraine and its cities, we talked about the capital of Ukraine – Kyiv.

- The capital of our country is Kyiv. It’s an ancient city, it’s 1500 years old.

Odessa – is my native city. It is a very young city. It is just 222 years old. The population of Odessa is about one million people. Many tourists come to visit Odessa every year. Odessa is famous for its sightseeing.
How old is Odessa?
The Potemkin stairs it is Boulevard steps leading to the sea port.
The Potemkin stairs were designed in 1825 by architects Abraham Melnikov and Francesco Boffo Pottier. They were planned as the main entrance to the city from the sea. The stairs became a symbol of Odessa. Originally, there are 200 steps. But now, there are 192 steps. The height of stairs is 27 meters, length — 142. A lot of concerts, different movies people can watch on The Potemkin stairs.

Primorsky Boulevard is one of the most beautiful parks of our city!
Primorsky Boulevard is one of the most visited places in our city. It is always full as the citizens of Odessa and tourists. It is especially beautiful in the evening when the trees are lit with colourful lights. In front of the boulevard you can see a museum, a bank, a cafe and a city hall.
When is Primorsky Boulevard especially beautiful?
Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.
Its history begins almost since the Foundation of Odessa. Theatre was opened on the10 Feb 1810. At night of the 2 of January 1873, the theatre, to a huge regret, burned. The opening of the new theater took place on the 1 of October 1887. By the middle 1990s, the building was in catastrophic condition. In the fall of 2007 finally ended the long restoration. After the restoration the theatre was opened on 22 September 2007. All this beauty and sweet music, you can learn at the Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet theatre.
When was the theatre opened?
Deribasovskaya Street is one of the Central streets of Odessa. It is very Old Street. Since 1811, the street was named after the founder of the city. Deribasovskaya Street was the source of inspiration for many songs; its name is mentioned in many films, works of art. Every person who goes to Odessa must visit this street, to touch its great history. For me – Deribasovskaya Street is one of the world’s best streets. There are many restaurants, cafes and open-air markets in the Street. Many tourists visit Deribasovskaya Street every dat. It is always noisy!
What can people find in Deribasovskaya Street?
School # 117 It’s my school. It is 80 years old. It is situated in Rishelievskaya Street 18. My school is four-storey grey building. It has got big windows, a playground for school-children, and a yard. On the first floor you can find a hall, a principle office and a medical office. On the second floor there is a canteen, a gym and some studies. On the third floor there is an assembly hall, a library and some studies too. On the fourth floor there is a second gym and a lot of studies. School is divided into two parts – junior and senior school. Near the school there is a bank, a café, a library and a big shopping centre. I like my school very much!
