Focus: 1. Apply vocabulary and grammar knowledge.
- Develop skills and abilities in leading debates and project work.
Time required: 45 minutes
Materials required: Multi-media equipment, students’ projects
Aims: By the end of the lesson the students will:
-will have further developed their knowledge about British , Ukrainian and American traditions;
– enlarge their outlook;
– respect the eating traditions of other country.
Learning outcomes: by the end of the lesson the students are expected to be able to use the vocabulary on the topic in their speech expressing agreement or disagreement
Procedure
І. Introduction
1. Warming up
On the board appears the topic of the lesson “Eating Out”
T: Look at the board and you will see the topic of our lesson. What does this phrase mean? (Students’ answers)
2. Phonetic drills
Brainstorming the ideas:
T: What words shall we use today?
Student’ answers (fast food restaurant, ordinary restaurant, special occasions, bill, tips, etc)
T: Yes, you are right. Let’s repeat some of these words all together (Students repeat the words and explain them)

ordinary finger
napkin cheap
Waiter counter
menu customer
fork hamburger
tips French fries

3. Speaking warm up
T: As you see, the words are divided into two groups. Why?
Student’s answers (The first group is connected with restaurants, the second is connected with fast food restaurants)
T: Look at these pictures and describe them using these words.
T: Where do you and your family/friends prefer eating?
III. Practice
1. Team work (Debates)
T: So, as you see people have different tastes. Some of them prefer eating out and some of them prefer eating at home (eating in).
T: Now, let’s make little debates about what is better eating out or eating in?
2. pictures appear on the board: the first one concerning eating out, the second one – eating in.
T: What are our useful phrases when we have debates? Student’s answers
Let’s repeat them all together.

I wouldn’t say that.
T: You have 3 minutes to think and then let’s debate.
All the students are divided into 3 groups. The first group proves that eating out is better, the second group proves that eating in is better, the third one (experts) listens, sums up all the facts and makes a conclusion which group is more convincing.
2. Reading and speaking activities
T: During our lessons, we’ve spoken a lot about food and eating traditions in Britain. Look at the table on the blackboard, read information about Britain and make the same sentences about eating in Ukraine. Students’ answers

T: So, We have discussed eating traditions in Britain and Ukraine.. Make the trios and prepare the dialogues about eating traditions in America. Imagine that you are from the USA, Ukraine and Britain. Use the previous information to ask your partners and share the information about the country you present.

T: Use summing phrases and make the conclusion about eating traditions in Britain, the USA and Ukraine. Whose way (style) of life is healthier?

V. Setting Homework
Home assignment: Write a report about eating habits in Ukraine, Britain and the USA.
